Salt is all around you. Many, even most, of the products you see are produced from salt or using salt in their manufacture. Industries use most of the salt produced in the world today. The biggest single use of salt is also one of the least known. Salt is the feedstock for the chlor-alkali chemical industry, just as oil is for the petrochemical industry. The difference: we are not running out of salt! Chlorine chemistry brings consumers clean water, soaps and detergents, many medications, PVC pipes for our homes, cell phones, cosmetics, protective suits for SCUBA divers – and astronauts, digital cameras, flat panel TVs, electron microscopes, solar panels for energy production. The list is essentially endless… salt has 14,000 known uses!

So, what does it all come down to and what is the best salt to use for your application? Well, it all comes down to salt purity! Salt purity is defined as the percentage of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) in the final product; a higher number means fewer impurities. The impurities are other minerals, not necessarily detrimental to the salt’s intended use, but not contributing to the benefit of salt. According to the Foodstuff, Cosmetics and Disinfectants act food stuff salt should contain no less than 97% Sodium Chloride on a dry matter basis which is typically a spec that Solar Salt does meet. PVD salt however has the ability to meet 99.99% Sodium Chloride spec thus being the highest purity salt for industrial applications.

Cerebos Low Salt

Description

This salt is produced to comply with the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act and Regulations 54/1972. It consists essentially of refined sodium chloride crystals mixed with potassium chloride crystals in order to reduce the sodium levels. The particle size is between 600µm and 250µm nominal aperture cross section. The crystals can be coated with a suitable Free Flowing agent to retard moisture absorption.

Particle Size

More than 90% shall pass through a sieve of 600µm nominal aperture. Less than 20% shall pass through a sieve of 355µm nominal aperture.

Cerebos No.1 Coarse Salt

Description

This salt is produced to comply with the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act and Regulations 54/1972. It consists essentially of unrefined sodium chloride crystals with particle size ranging between 8mm and 2mm nominal cross section.

Particle Size

More than 80% shall pass through a sieve of 4.75mm nominal aperture. Less than 10% shall pass through a sieve of 1880µm nominal aperture.

PVD SALT

 

DESCRIPTION

This salt is produced to comply with the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act and Regulations 54/1972. It consists essentially of pure vacuum dried sodium chloride crystals with particle size ranging between 600µm and 180µm nominal cross section. The crystals can be coated with a suitable free flowing agent to retard moisture absorption.

PARTICLE SIZE

More than 90% shall pass through a sieve of 600µm nominal aperture. Less than 5% shall pass through a sieve of 180µm nominal aperture.

CEREBOS REFINED FINE SALT

 

DESCRIPTION

This salt is produced to comply with the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act and Regulations 54/1972. It consists essentially of refined, unscreened sodium chloride crystals with mixed aggregate particle size from 1.7mm to 180mm

PARTICLE SIZE

More than 95% shall pass through a sieve of 1.7mm nominal aperture. Less than 30% shall pass through a sieve of 180µm nominal aperture.

CEREBOS REFINED HALOPHILIC FREE SALT

 

DESCRIPTION

This salt is produced to comply with the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act and Regulations 54/1972. It consists essentially of refined sodium chloride crystals of particle size between 1.7mm and 180µm nominal cross section. This salt is sterilised to eliminate halophilic bacteria.

PARTICLE SIZE

More than 30% shall pass through a sieve of 180µm nominal aperture.

CEREBOS REFINED MEDIUM SALT

 

DESCRIPTION

This salt is produced to comply with the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act and Regulations 54/1972. It consists essentially of refined sodium chloride crystals of particle size between 1.7mm and 600µm nominal cross section.

PARTICLE SIZE

More than 90% shall pass through a sieve of 1.7mm nominal aperture. Less than 30% shall pass through a sieve of 600µm nominal aperture.

CEREBOS SPECIAL BUTTER SALT

 

DESCRIPTION

This salt is produced to comply with the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act and Regulations 54/1972. It consists essentially of refined sodium chloride powder with a particle size smaller than 106µm nominal cross section.

PARTICLE SIZE

More than 80% shall pass through a sieve of 106µm nominal aperture.

CEREBOS SPECIAL TABLE SALT
